The Aussie Spritual Cowboy

About Me

He was born in 1955 and by the age of four he had ridden his first horse on his own and by 15 he was riding wild outlaw broncs.

In fact, horses have a common thread throughout his life, so much so he often joked he had horse sweat running through his veins.

Greg excelled at school, Dux of year nine but all he lived and breathed for was horses

At age a 21 a tragic accident leaves him unable to ride horses again.

A graphic vision sees Greg leave the land he loves and enlist in a radio school far away in Brisbane.

He now faces his demons for the next 30 years, the mental illness called “Bipolar Disorder ’’. He wins, he loses but in the end he will claim victory.

Greg excels in a 20 year career in radio reaching heights he never dreamed of when he won the Queensland Media Award prize for “Best Coverage of indigenous Affairs” at a gala event in Brisbane. A white man in a black organization able to see both sides of the story.

In a complete backflip he takes on a job working as a support worker in the mental health arena working for an aboriginal health organisation.

It does not take long before he is changing the world around him. He works hard to help construct a memorandum of understanding with the aboriginal health organisation he works for and Queensland Health.

This enables Greg and other support workers to take clients out of the mental health unit on leave. Permission has to be given by the psychiatrists to leave the psychiatric unit and Greg is excelling once again and bestowed with an award for the work he’s been doing with the mental health clients.

In the middle of all this Greg writes a book,” The White Horse and the Wandjina “.

For seven years he works at the aboriginal health organisation then you find him amongst 45° heat and red dust in Cape York Peninsula, North Queensland driving a semitrailer and it’s in that environment he dreams up the idea to write a book about his life journey.

While driving the big white Mack truck in the North Greg’s troublesome back comes back to haunt him. Racked with incredible pain every day he contemplates taking his own life. He hatched a plan so well anyone that found him would have thought it an accident.

Christ intervenes in Greg’s life for the second time and Greg gave a truck driving game away.

Greg thinks he is in control of his life when Christ intervenes once more.

In 1989 he had an out of body experience at Kurrimine Beach travelling back to the night when Judas betrayed Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane. The realisation that he is both the healer and a sinner but it took him nearly a lifetime, but led him to Christ,  and the opportunity to serve others.

Come along with the author as he embraces his vulnerabilities delves into new realms, and uncovers the ways in which the divine and spiritual realms intersect with the rich tapestry of indigenous Australian culture.
